For immediate release (Country Meadows – Moncton, NB): Nick Clark of Moncton and Stephanie Chubb of The Riverside Country Club claimed the 2006 NB Junior/Juvenile Championship on Thursday, July 20, 2006.

Nick Clark came out to play Thursday morning by proving that he wanted to claim the provincial title by firing a –3 (69), for a 3-day total of 220 (+4). Clark made birdies at holes 5, 6, 8, 11, and 14 to make up for bogies that he made at holes 9 and 15. Clark also earned the first spot on the NB Junior Men’s Team who will compete at the Canadian Junior Championship to be held at the Sussex Golf & Curling Club on August 7th-10th, 2006. Clark is exempt from playing in the team trials to determine the remainder of the NB team members. Team trials will commence at 7:00AM, Friday, July 21, 2006. The top 21 including ties will be vying for the remaining 3 spots on the team.

Stephanie Chubb from Riverside fought off her competitors to complete the 54-hole event in first place. Chubb fired an 81 on Thursday to finish the week with a three-day total of 243. Chubb claimed the NB Junior title by a margin of 21 shots ahead of Jennifer Armstrong, also from Riverside. Chubb and Armstrong will be joined on the NB Junior Women’s team by Kelsey MacDonald of Gowan Brae and Jennifer Whelan of The Riverside Country Club. To claim the fourth spot on the NB Junior Women’s team, Whelan was required to complete a three hole aggregate playoff with Megan Akkerman of Rockwood Park. The four team members will participate at the 2006 Royale National Junior Women’s Championship which will take place at the Gowan Brae Golf & Country Club on August 8th-11th, 2006.

The fourth and final round of the week will commence at 7 am on July 21st to determine the final 3 positions for the NB Junior Men’s Team, as well as the 5 quota spots that NB received to fill the field at the Canadian Junior Men’s Championship. The top 21 players from the previous three rounds will be competing for the team spots. All players will begin on the first tee with low scores going out last.
