New Brunswick Junior Team Announced

The New Brunswick Junior Mens Team was selected after 4 rounds of play at Country Meadows at the Junior / Juvenile Championships. The team consists Alain Plourde (Edmundston Fraser), Jean Mainville (Fox Creek), and Tom Keddy (Burro Hills). They will join the Junior Champion Nick Clark of Moncton Golf and Country Club. Clark automatically earned a spot on the Provincial Junior Team and therefore did not compete in the team trials.

New Brunswick is also able to send 5 additional quota spots to join the NB Junior Team at the Canadian Junior Championships taking place at the Sussex Golf and Country Club (August 7th – 10th, 2006). The quota spots are the 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th place finishers at the team trials and they are Matt Layden - team alternate (Petticodiac), Eric Michaud (Fox Creek), Stephane Boudreau (Fox Creek), Chris Hopper (Country Meadows), and Corey Bourque (Westfield).

New Brunswick may be able to send a 10th player to the Canadian Junior Championships should a New Brunswick player win the Future Links Atlantic Championships at Mill River Golf Course in Woodstock, PEI (July 24th – 27th, 2006).

Plourde and Keddy secured their spots on the National team by scoring –1 in the 4th and final round of the 2006 Junior / Juvenile Championship. Mainville had a par 72 for the day confirming his team spot.

The New Brunswick Golf Association, a not for profit organization founded in 1934, is the official governing body for amateur golf in New Brunswick. In January of 2006, the NBGA officially merged with the New Brunswick Ladies Golf Association (NBLGA), resulting in one united governing body for amateur golf in the province. Programs offered by the NBGA to its 15,000 members include: 18 provincial championships, rules of golf education, course rating and handicap services, junior golf development programs and member club marketing initiatives.
