Two Teams Share Lead at Molson NB Fourball The Hampton Golf Club is this weekend’s home to the 2008 Molson Men’s NB Fourball Championship. Round one began Saturday morning and a total of 12 teams were able to shoot under par as the leaders shot the low round of 5 under par, 67. Currently leading the tournament with a gross score of 67 are the two-man teams of Jason Fauvelle from Nova Scotia and Wade Hunter who plays at the Hampton Golf Club, and the team of Neil Roberts and Peter McCarthy who both play out of the Westfield Golf and Country Club. Both of the two top teams shot a very similar 35 on the front and 32 on the back as each team made a total of 7 birdies and 2 bogeys over their 18-hole rounds. Hunter and Fauvelle began their round with a bogey but bounced back with four birdies in their next five holes and they also managed to birdie two of their last four holes. McCarthy and Roberts got off to a quick start after a birdie on the first hole but made most of their birdies in the middle of their round on holes 6,8,12, and 13.
Not far behind the leaders is the Riverside Country Club duo of Darren and Jason Roach who won the championship last year at the Westfield Golf and Country Club by a total of six shots. The Roach brothers are one shot behind the leaders at 4 under par, making a single bogey during their round, which occurred on the 18th hole. Also shooting 68 was the hometown team of Jason Snow and Mike Breen from the Hampton Golf Club. Four other teams were able to shoot 3 under par 69 on Saturday, leaving little room for error for the teams who happen to be sitting at the top of the leaderboard. These teams at 3 under par include Greg Jones and Shawn Branch; Brent Hatchard and Greg O’Neill; Bob Gray and Jean Leblanc; and Bob Brown and Tony MacKinnon.
In the Net division, Ken Deveau and Rollie Bourgeois, both from the Hampton Golf Club, finished the day alone at the top of the leaderboard after firing a 10 under par, 62. Behind the pair are the teams of Brett Doyle and Darcy Doyle; Dan Hurley and Bill Nutter; and Wade Hunter and Jason Fauvelle, who all sit at Net 63.
Sunday’s action is set to begin at 7:30 Sunday morning, with the final pair teeing off at 1:30. Playing in the final pairing will be the overall gross-score leaders.
