1. Qualification Criteria

The following individuals will receive an invitation to compete in the Barrett Amateur Championship.

  1. Winner of the Barrett Amateur (lifetime).
  2. Winner of the New Brunswick Amateur in the past 10 years.
  3. Finished among the top 25 at the previous year’s Barrett Amateur.
  4. Finished among the top 64 at the previous year’s Canadian Amateur.
  5. Finished among the top 15 at the current year’s NB Amateur.
  6. Finished among the top 15 at the previous year’s NS Amateur.
  7. Finished among the top 10 in previous year’s NS Player of the Year Standings.
  8. Finished among the top 10 in the previous year’s PEI Player of the Year Standings.
  9. Finished among the top 20 at the previous year’s Quebec Amateur.
  10. Member of any Provincial Willingdon Cup team - previous year.
  11. Member of any Provincial Willingdon Cup team - current year.
  12. Finished among the top 10 in previous year’s NB Player of the Year Standings.
  13. Winner of a New Brunswick Class II event subsequent to the last Barrett Amateur.
  14. Finished among the top 20 from the previous year’s Maine State Order of Merit.
  15. Member of the top 10 from the previous year’s Order of Merit for any other state in the USA.
  16. Current or Past Champions of all officially recognized National Amateur Championships.
  17. Selections at the discretion of the Committee.

NOTE: International players with comparable credentials to those above are encouraged to submit entry forms. The Selection Committee will be pleased to accept deserving international candidates.

 

2. Caddies

1. The use of caddies is not compulsory. Competitors requiring a caddie should mark the appropriate section on the application. In the event there is a shortage of caddies all caddies will be decided by lot.
2. A caddie may not wear shoes with conventional spikes; however, spikeless golf shoes and golf shoes fitted with soft spikes may be worn. Violation of this condition may result in the disqualification of the competitor.

3. Cdn. Amateur Exemption

The Champion at the 2008 Barrett Amateur Championship will receive exemptions into the 2008 Canadian Amateur Championship.  The 104th Canadian Amateur Championship is scheduled for the Paradise Canyon Golf Resort (Lethbridge, AB) from August 10th - 14th, 2008.

4. Automotive Transportation

Except when specifically permitted by the Event Rules Committee, competitors shall walk at all times during a stipulated round. In an effort to accommodate, the Committee can allow, in exceptional circumstances, use of a power cart or other special equipment by a competitor who cannot, in the opinion of the Rules Committee, participate in this competition because of a serious, permanent physical impairment. Use can be denied if the Rules Committee believes the use of such a power cart, or other special equipment, would give a competitor an undue advantage over other competitors in the competition. A current medical certificate along with a letter describing the disability and explaining the competitor's needs must be submitted at the time of application filing.
The penalty for breach of this transportation condition is described on the event standard local rule card.
Note: "Motorized Power Cart" does not include battery operated "walk behind" carts which are permitted.

5. Cdn. Natl. Order of Merit

The Barrett Amateur Championship is a national Canadian Order of Merit event with points being awarded to players based on finish in the event.  The Top 20 Finishers at the Barrett Amateur Championship will receive points toward the Canadian Order of Merit. 

Points will be awarded as follows: 1st -150 points, 2nd - 90 points, 3rd - 80 points, 4th - 70 points, 5th - 60 points, 6th - 50 points, 7th - 40 points, 8th - 30 points, 9th - 20 points, 10th - 10 points, 11th to 15th - 8 points, 16th to 20th - 6 points.

6. NB Player of the Year

Canadian 2 for 1 Pizza NB Player of the Year points will be awarded to New Brunswick competitors in the Barrett field as follows:

1st - 24 points, 2nd - 20 points, 3rd - 16 points, 4th - 12 points, 5th - 11 points, 6th - 10 points, 7th - 9 points, 8th - 8 points, 9th - 7 points, 10th - 6 points, 11th - 5 points, 12th - 4 points, 13th - 3 points, 14th - 2 points, 14th - 1 point.
