Judson and MacKnight crowned champs at 2008 NB Senior Fourball Championship
The Westfield Golf and Country Club was home to the final round of the 2008 NB Senior Fourball Championship on Thursday and 1st round co-leaders Ralph Judson and Guy MacKnight breezed their way to victory. The Country Meadows Golf Club duo began the day tied with Paul Hachey and Gilles Masse of the Gowan Brae Golf Club but their scorching round of 64, which was the low round of the day, led them to a 4 shot win over their nearest competitors. Finishing in second position at –5 was Fredericton Golf Club’s Jack Cunningham and partner, Doug MacAfee of the Sussex Golf and Curling Club.
Judson and MacKnight began their day with birdies on 2, 3 & 5. After a bogey on 8, the pair had a birdie on 9 to shot 33 on the front nine. Birdies on 11, 14 &15 left them at 5 under par for the day and 9 under par for the championship. Judson and MacKnight played together in the 2007 Senior Fourball Championship and finished in a tie for 10th at the Grand Falls Golf Club. MacKnight seems to perform well while in the hunt as he won the 2007 NB Senior Championship at the Aroostook Valley Country Club. This pair will be defending the championship next year, when the championship returns to the Westfield Golf and Country Club.
Cunningham and MacAfee played a strong second round, shooting 65 on Thursday. The pair was one over par on their front nine, but caught fire on the back which led to a tournament low 29 on the back nine. Finishing 3rd was Masse and Hachey from Gowan Brae after their round of even par 69. In a tie for 4th were the teams of Pierre Boulet of the Hampton Golf Club and John Brown of the Riverside Country Club, along with the team of Shane Hayward of the Riverside Country Club and his partner Rod MacDonald of the Hampton Golf Club. Tied for 6th at –2 were the three teams of Frank Shannon and Wilfred Pilgrim, Greg Blake and Ernie Mackinnon and Ray Smith and Jim Cliff.
In the overall net division, Les Mott of the Riverside Country Club and Bob Tilley of the Westfield Golf and Country Club finished on top with their final net score of –19. In the second division, Jacques Bosse of the Grand Falls Golf Club and his partner Gaetan Bosse of the Edmundston Fraser Golf Club finished on top with their score of 2 over par. Second place was clinched by Phillip Mix and Glenn Bolivar of the Country Meadows Golf Club with their final score of +4. Bevan Gallagher and James Liston of the Fredericton Golf Club finished in a tie for 3rd place with John Johnson and Lee Huntington of the Fox Creek Golf Club.
