Richardson and Comeau Need Playoff to win 2nd Straight BMO Nesbitt Burns (Moncton) NB Ladies Fourball


For immediate release (Bathurst, NB) – June 8th, 2008: Ladies from all over New Brunswick gathered in Bathurst today to kick off the 2008 BMO Nesbitt Burns (Moncton) NB Ladies Four Ball Championship at Gowan Brae Golf Club. The event was preceeded by the Ladies Invitational tournament hosted by the club making for a weekend long event. The rain did not affect the scores in the championship.

There was a 3-way tie for first place after 18 holes of play in the Gross competition between defending champions Leanne Richardson & Sandy Comeau of Country Meadows, Chris Spidell & Susan Sullivan of Country Meadows, and Paula Napke-Flanagan of Miramichi & Kelly MacDonald of Gowan Brae. The team of Richardson & Comeau were successful in defending their title by winning on the second playoff hole. Spidell & Sullivan, along with Flanagan & MacDonald finished tied for second place overall.
 
In the Net Division, Doreen Vienneau & Kadra Benhalima of Pine Needles led the way with a 57. Second place was won by Marilyn Pollock & Iona McCully of Petitcodiac with a Net round of 61.
 
BMO Nesbitt Burns (Moncton) is the title sponsor for the NB Ladies Fourball Championship. The tournament is a two-person best ball competition with both gross and net categories. This year’s event carried a field of 32 teams (64 players).
 
The New Brunswick Golf Association, a not for profit organization founded in 1934, is the official governing body for amateur golf in New Brunswick. In January of 2006, the NBGA officially merged with the New Brunswick Ladies Golf Association (NBLGA), resulting in one united governing body for amateur golf in the province. Programs offered by the NBGA to its 15,000 members include: 18 provincial championships, rules of golf education, course rating and handicap services, junior golf development programs and member club marketing initiatives.
