01. DIVISIONS

The New Brunswick Golf Association (NBGA) will make use of Divisions for the NB Amateur and the NB Mid-Amateur Championships once again in 2008. In each championship, players will be grouped by handicap into four divisions. A similar format is already being used for the NB Senior & Super Senior Championships.

02. Eligibility

This event is open to male golfers who have reached the age of twenty-five (25) on or before August 18, 2008.
All Players must be in possession of a recognized handicap card that has been properly attested. Entry preference will be given to players who are a member of the New Brunswick Golf Association. All golfers allowed entrance to the event are eligible to be named champion.

The NB Mid-Amateur Championship has a maximum field size of 144 players.

03. Exemptions

The Top 10 finishers in each Division at the 2007 NB Mid-Amateur Championship are guaranteed positions in the 2008 NB Mid-Amateur Championships.  Exempt players must properly complete an NBGA Tournament Entry form and submit the applicable tournament entry form.  Guaranteed positions will be held until Wednesday, June 11th, 2008.

Exempted Players for 2008 are as follows:

Division 1 - Gary Melanson (Covered Bridge), Michael MacDonald (Riverside), Tony MacKinnon (Fredericton), Dale Kinnie (Moncton), Ed Reevey (Riverside), Richard York (Fredericton), Ken Comeau (Moncton), Jamie Arbeau (Fredericton), Greg Jones (Country Meadows) and Bob Brown (Fredericton)

Division 2 - Chad Arnold (Aroostook), Steve Connor (Moncton), Darren Church (Moncton), Pierre Boulet (Hampton), Bob Wilson (Covered Bridge), Shawn Branch (Country Meadows), Randy Pickel (Woodstock), Michael Graham (Midland), Wilfred Pilgrim (Kingswood), Randy Roussie (Mactaquac), and Dennis Fiander (Hampton)

Division 3  - George Watson (Fredericton), Ghislain Maltais (Covered Bridge), Kerry Giberson (Covered Bridge), Marty Smith (Westfield), Alec Sawyer (Woodstock), Neil Blanchard (Riverside), Joe Williams (Westfield), Brent Hatchard (Aroostook), Fred McCain (Covered Bridge), and Joe Sullivan (Covered Bridge)

04. Automotive Transportation

The use of automotive transportation is not permitted in this event.

In an effort to accommodate disabilities, the NBGA can allow, in exceptional circumstances, use of a power cart or other special equipment by a player who otherwise qualified for an amateur event and cannot, in the opinion of the Rules Committee for the competition, participate in such competition because of serious permanent physical impairment. Such use can be denied if the Rules Committee believes that the use of such a power cart, or other special equipment, would give a player an undue advantage over other players in the competition.
A current medical certificate along with a signed letter from the competitor?s medical doctor describing the disability and explaining the player?s needs, must be submitted at the time of entry filing.

05. Format

54-hole stroke play championship. The championship is played in 18-hole stipulated rounds over three consecutive days. The event will be played in  4 Divisions based on handicap.  Divisions will be determined after all players have registered at the championship prior to the start of the 1st round of play.

06. Canadian Mid-Amateur

Canadian Mid-Amateur Championship: Members of the NB Team are eligible to play. All other NBGA players wishing to enter will need to complete an RCGA entry form available from the NBGA office or the RCGA and have a maximum factor of 5.0 at time of entry.

NB Mid-Amateur Team: The Mid-Amateur Champion plus three (3) mid-amateurs from NBGA Member Clubs who have compiled the best gross scores after 54 holes of play are eligible for selection as a member of Team NB. In the event of a tie or ties for a team position or alternate, the winner(s) will be determined by a 3-hole aggregate total playoff, then sudden victory if required. In 2008, the Canadian Mid-Amateur Championship will be played from August 18th-22th at Pheasant Glen Golf Resort in Qualicum Beach, BC.

07. Prizes

Prizes: Will be awarded by Division.  Amounts are to be determined and will be dependent on the size of the field. 

Team Competition: There will be no club team competitions at NBGA events in 2008.

Awards Dinner: The Champion for the event will be an invited guest of the New Brunswick Golf Association at the Association's Annual Louisbourg Investments Golf Awards Dinner scheduled for the Memramcook Institute in Memramcook, NB on Saturday, October 25th, 2008.

10. Draw Information

DRAW

In 2008, the first round draw will be created by lot with the defending tournament champion teeing off in the initial game.  The second round draw will be determined on the basis of the first round score with the lowest scores teeing off first.  The third round draw will be determined on the basis of combined first and second round scores with the highest two day total teeing off first.  In the event of tie scores, the draw will be created on the basis of the first score recorded teeing off last.
