2008 Austin Drisdelle Realty Ltd.
NB Junior/Juvenile Championship

July 18, 2008

The second round of the 2008 Austin Drisdelle Realty Ltd. NB Junior/Juvenile Championships continued today at the Fredericton Golf & Curling Club under another warm day.

There was a big change on the leader board at the end of the 2nd round. Neil Roberts of Westfield is now the sole leader after following his first round score of 70, with a +2 (72) on Tuesday to hold a 2 shot lead over Justin Richard of Fox Creek. Roberts made the turn at +3 (37), but finished the back nine at -1 (35) for an 18 hole score of +2 (72) and two day total of 142. Justin Richard of Fox Creek ended his second round at +4 (74) for a two day total of 144. Matt Layden of Fox Creek & Stefan Bielecki of Fredericton hold the 3rd position with a 36 hole score of +5 (145)

The Boys Atlantic Teams were decided upon the completion of the 2nd round, and will compete at the CN Future Links Atlantic Championships to be held at the Gowan Brae Golf Club in Bathurst on July 21-24, 2008. Members of the teams include:
Junior Team – Thomas Booth, Matt Layden, Stephane Boudreau & Charlie Martin
Juvenile Team – Neil Roberts, Justin Richard, Stefan Bielecki, Phillip Soicher
Midget Team – Jonathan Whelan, Kyle Blacquier, J.J. Allison, Brett Wilson

A cut of the top 60, including ties will continue play in Wednesday’s 3rd round.

The girls division became very tight at the end of the 2nd round as Jennifer Armstrong of Riverside fought her way back to the top of the leaderboard. Armstrong is now tied for first place with Jennifer Whelan also from Riverside. Armstrong finished the second day with an 86 for a two day total of 167. Whelan dropped her stroke lead by shooting a 90 today for a two day total of 167. The third position is currently held by Morgan Matchett of Miramichi who is only one shot off the pace with a score of 168.

Round 3 commences at 7 am on July 16th with low scores going out last. The first two rounds of the championship determined the Boys Atlantic Teams, along with the remaining 3 spots on the Midget Boys team (the Midget Champion, Jonathan Whelan of Riverside, has an exemption on the team because of his victory at last week’s Midget/Bantam Championship in Moncton). After the first two days of play, the field of boys cut to the top 60 and ties. On the third day of play, the Juvenile and Junior Champions (boys & girls) will be determined along with the Junior Girls Atlantic & Provincial team. The top 21 and ties for the boys will move onto the fourth and final day of play, which is the NB Junior Boys team trials, to determine the additional 3 team spots (the Junior Male champion automatically receives a berth on the team) along with the 2 quota spots.
