2008 Austin Drisdelle Realty Ltd.
NB Junior/Juvenile Championship

July 14, 2008

The first day of the 2008 Austin Drisdelle Realty Ltd. NB Junior/Juvenile Championships began today at the Fredericton Golf & Curling Club under clear skies and warm temperatures. The humidity was a variable that the players had to overcome to finish the day. This week’s event will accommodate 130 competitors (14 girls & 116 boys).

Stephane Boudreau of Fox Creek had no difficulty playing in warm conditions as he is the first round leader at –1 (69). Boudreau had 1 bogey, 6 pars and 2 birdies on the front nine. He made the turn at –2 (32). On the back nine, Boudreau made 2 bogeys, 5 pars and 1 birdie (36) to complete the day at –1. Boudreau now holds a one shot lead over playing partner Neil Roberts of Westfield and club partner Justin Richard of Fox Creek.

Neil Roberts finished the day with 3 bogeys, 12 pars & 3 birdies to finish at even par (70). Roberts made the turn at -1 then recorded a bogey at the 13th hole to finish at even par (70). Justin Richard, tied for 2nd place after round 1 by scoring 3 bogeys, 12 pars, & 3 birdies to finish at even par (70). Richard made the turn at +1 (35) but carded birdies at holes 10, 12, & 13 to finish the back nine at -1 (35) for an 18 hole total of 70.

The girls began their championship at 10:54am, starting at the first tee. Jennifer Whelan of Riverside holds a 4 shot lead over Jennifer Armstrong, also from Riverside. Whelan finished the front nine with 2 double bogeys, 1 bogey, 2 pars & 4 birdies for a +2 (37). Whelan then made 4 bogeys, 4 pars & a birdie to finish the back nine with a 40, and 18 hole score of +4 (77). Armstrong, 4 shots behind Whelan at +8 (81) will be paired with Whelan for round 2.

Round 2 commences at 7 am on July 15th with everyone going off the first tee. The first two rounds of the championship will determine the Boys Atlantic Teams, along with the remaining 3 spots on the Midget Boys team (the Midget Champion, Jonathan Whelan of Riverside, has an exemption on the team because of his repeat victory at last week’s Midget/Bantam Championship Magnetic Hill). After the first two days of play, the field of boys will be cut to the top 60 and ties. On the third day of play, the Juvenile and Junior Champions (boys & girls) will be determined along with the Junior Girls Atlantic & Provincial team. The top 21 and ties for the boys will move onto the fourth and final day of play, which is the NB Junior Boys team trials, to determine the additional 3 team spots (the Junior Male champion automatically receives a berth on the team).

Play will resume tomorrow (July 15th) at 7:00am. For more information on this event including a complete list of scores and tomorrows draw, please visit the New Brunswick Golf Association web site at www.nbga.nb.ca.
