2008 Cavendish/Lounsbury NB Bantam/Midget Championship
 
The second and final day of the Midget / Bantam Championship took place today at the Magnetic Hill Golf Club. The event, which is a 36-hole championship, will name the Bantam and Midget Champions for both the boys and the girls. The field consisted of 55 players, 47 boys and 8 girls. Jonathan Whelan of Riverside, Calvin Ross of Kingswood & Morgan Matchett of Miramichi have claimed the provincial titles.
 
After day two, Jonathan Whelan of Riverside won the midget division by two shots. Whelan maintained his first round lead through today’s round. Today, Whelan matched his first round score of +4 (74) for a two-day total of 148 (+8). Whelan started today’s round with 4 pars, 3 birdies, and 1 double bogey on the front 9. On the back nine, Whelan had two double bogeys, 1 bogey, six pars & one birdies for a 40, and a total of 74. Whelan won the midget title by 2 shots over defending champion Kyle Blacquier of Kingswood.  
 
On the boys’ bantam side, yesterdays’ bantam leader, Calvin Ross of Kingswood finished on top of his division to claim the bantam title with rounds of 88 & 92 for a total score of 180. Jonathan Carroll of Gowan Brae finished alone in second place with a 36-hole total of 187.
 
In the girls midget division, Morgan Matchett of Miramichi also held onto her round 1 lead by finishing the second round with a better round than the first day. Matchett shot 89 then 82 in the second round to claim the title. Matchett won by a 9 shot victory over Jillian Ferguson of Gowan Brae. Ferguson had matching rounds of 91 for a two-day total of 182. 
 
On the boys’ side, the top 15 competitors and ties earn the right to compete in the Austin Drisdelle Realty NB Junior Juvenile Championship at the Fredericton Golf & Curling Club. The midget champion will automatically be named to represent the NBGA at the Atlantic Team Championships. The remaining 3 spots on the Midget Team, and the alternate spot, will be selected from the top three Midget players after the 2 rounds of the Midget/Bantam and the first two rounds of the Junior/Juvenile Championships.
