Seagris and Williamson Share the lead at the RBC Dominion Securities NB Amateur

After the second round of play at the 2008 RBC Dominion Securities NB Amateur Championship, Bill Seagris from Amherstburg, Ontario and David Williamson of the Ashburn Golf Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia are in a two-way tie at the top of the leaderboard. Both competitors are sitting at 138 after the second round of play. Fredericton’s Adam Atkinson held a three shot lead after the first round of play, but failed to shoot under par with a round of 75, leaving him two shots behind the leaders at 140.

Shooting the low round of the day, Bill Seagris fired his second consecutive 69. Seagris had a solid round with four birdies on holes 1, 3, 12 & 18 and only made one bogey throughout his round, going 35 on the front and 34 on the back. Seagris, who has won the Barrett Amateur Championship the past two years, has played in the last 3 RBC Dominion Securities NB Amateur Championships, placing 2nd in 2007. David Williamson fired a 70 on Friday to follow up a 68 on Thursday, moving him from 2nd place into a tie for a share of the lead with Seagris. Williamson, who is coming off a huge playoff victory at the Nova Scotia Amateur Championship last week, played university golf at Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia. Williamson had a birdie on the first hole and followed it up with a string of four more birdies on holes 4, 5, 6 & 7, shooting 33 on the front nine, his second nine of the day. Williamson started his day with three bogeys and two birdies on the back nine, shooting 37 on the back.

Sitting in 3rd is the first round leader Adam Atkinson from the Fredericton Golf Club who had an up-and-down round of 75 with 7 bogeys, 6 birdies, and a double-bogey. This gives Atkinson a two-day total of 140 after his impressive round of 65 on Thursday. Two shots behind Atkinson and four shots off the lead are Jean Mainville of the Fox Creek Golf Club and Eric Coffin of the Fredericton Golf Club, both sitting at 2 under par. Darren Roach and Matt Melanson are five shots off the lead.

In the 2nd division, Matt Melanson of the Royal Oaks Estates and Golf Club is leading the division at 1 under par, after his solid round of 71 on Friday. Not far behind Melanson are Calvin Blacquier of Kingswood Park and Tom Keddy of the Burro Hills Golf Club, both sitting at even par after two days of play. The 3rd division sees Kingswood Park’s Wilfred Pilgrim and Chris Gibson deadlocked in a tie at 13 over par. Only 2 strokes behind the Kingswood Park duo is Bob Gray of the Maplewood Golf and Country Club. The 4th division has Shawn Baker of the Westfield Golf and Country Club with a five shot lead over his competitors. Behind baker is Mike MacDonald and Darren Spriggs, both at +20.
