Atkinson surges ahead after a round of 65
 
Adam Atkinson of the Fredericton Golf Club holds a three shot lead after the first round at the RBC Dominion Securities NB Men’s Amateur Championship after an impressive round of 7 under par 65. The Mactaquac Provincial Park Golf Club is home of the RBC Dominion Securities NB Amateur Championship this week and it saw a total of eight players shoot under par in Round 1.
 
Atkinson began his round with a birdie on the first hole and finished his front nine at two under par. After a birdie on 10, he birdied holes 12, 14, 15, and 16 while shooting 5 under par on the back nine. Atkinson had a bogey on the second hole and did not look back with only pars and birdies on the remaining holes. Atkinson, coming off a strong 5th place finish at the Nike Golf NB Mid-Amateur Championship, is set to tee off in Fridays second round at 12:07PM.
 
David Williamson of the Ashburn Golf Club in Nova Scotia is currently sitting in 2nd place after his solid round of 68. Williamson was four under par on the front nine with birdies on 1, 7,8, and 9. On the back nine, he shot even par with a double bogey and two more birdies. Williamson is coming off a playoff win at the Nova Scotia Amateur Championship last week. Two-time Barrett Amateur Champion, Bill Seagris from Amherstburg, Ontario, is sitting alone in third place after his round of 69. In a tie for fourth place is a group of five golfers who all shot a two under par, 72, including: both Darren Roach and Jason Roach from the Riverside Country Club, James Sanford and Eric Coffin from the Fredericton Golf Club, and Calvin Blacquier from Kingswood Park.
 
In the second division, Calvin Blacquier is leading the division after firing a low round of 2 under par, 70. Not far behind Blacquier is Matt Melanson of the Royal Oaks Estates, after his round of even par. In the third division, Bob Gray from the Maplewood Golf and Country Club, and both Chris Gibson and Wilfred Pilgrim from Kingswood Park are in a three-way tie for first with their rounds of 5 over par, 77. Shawn Baker from Westfield is sitting alone in the lead in the fourth division after his round of 4 over par, 76.

The 2008 RBC Dominion Securities Men’s NB Amateur is a stroke play championship encompassing four divisions with gross and net prizes. This year’s amateur had 131 participants with RBC Dominion Securities as the events’ title sponsor. This event is the qualifier for the 2008 Canadian Amateur Championship in Lethbridge, Alberta where the NBGA chooses the top four individuals to play on Team NB to compete at the National Championship.
