Williamson Holds 5 shot lead at RBC Dominion Securities NB Amateur

David Williamson of the Ashburn Golf Club in Halifax, Nova Scotia fired a 4 under par, 68 on Saturday for the outright lead heading into the final round on Sunday at the RBC Dominion Securities NB Amateur Championship. After three rounds of play, Williamson has a 5-stroke lead over the second round co-leader, Bill Seagris of Amherstburg, Ontario.

Williamson began his round with a birdie on 2, but followed that up with a bogey on 4. He finished his front nine with birdies on 5 & 9, for a two under par 34 on the front. On the back nine he remained hot with an eagle on the par 5 12th and followed that up with another birdie on 15. After a bogey on 16, he came into the clubhouse sitting at 4 under par on the day and 10 under par for the championship. Williamson is looking to follow up his Nova Scotia Amateur win last week by finishing strong on Sunday to win his second provincial amateur championship this month.

Bill Seagris, who began the day tied for the lead with Williamson, played steady golf on Saturday but was unable to finish either nine under par. Seagris was 36 on the front nine with birdies on 3 & 4, and he was 37 on the back with a birdie on 15. Seagris had a total of 4 bogeys over his round and is currently sitting 5 strokes back of the leader at –5. Making a move on Saturday was Tom Keddy of the Hillsborough Golf Club, shooting 69. This leaves Keddy at –3, only 2 strokes back of Seagris. Fredericton Golf Course’s Eric Coffin finished his day at 73, which leaves him at –1 for the championship, 9 shots off the lead and in fourth place. Jason Roach and Jean Mainville are not far behind, sitting in a tie at even par.

Keddy, Coffin, Roach and Mainville are currently sitting in the four NB team positions heading into Sunday’s final round. Also in the hunt for positions on Team NB are Moncton’s Mathieu Gingras (+1), Kingswood’s Michel Landry (+1) and Tony MacKinnon of the Fredericton Golf Club, who sits at +2. Fredericton’s Bob Brown and first round leader Adam Atkinson sit at +3.

In the second division, Keddy came out with the win after finishing with an11 shot lead over Calvin Blacquier of Kingswood Park, who finished at +8. Keddy has been impressive, as he has been 5 under par in his last two rounds of the championship, going 74-70-69 over the three rounds. Blacquier fell back in the pack after his round of 80 on Saturday. In the third division, Wilfred Pilgrim and Chris Gibson, both of Kingswood, ended the divisional play in a tie for first place after they both fired 77’s on Saturday. Anthony Bielecki of the Fredericton Golf Club gained a stroke on the duo after shooting 76, but it was too little too late finishing 3 shots back of the pair. Shawn Baker of the Westfield Golf and Country Club earned himself the victory in the fourth division on Saturday after finishing with a three round total of 241. Not far behind Baker was Daryn Spriggs of the Mactaquac Provincial Park Golf Course who finished at 242.
